Wondering what to wear?

In order to get the most out of your senior photo session I recommend THREE diverse outfits. The first outfit should be a CASUAL style. The second outfit a more FORMAL look. And the third outfit should be centered around your PERSONALITY. Use the guide below to help plan for your session.

No uncomfortable changing behind a blanket or in the backseat of a car, I provide a pop-up changing tent to privately change outfits. Make sure to bring products to touch up hair and make up.

Personality Look for Girls and Guys

  • A trendy look for your final outfit to really show your style!

Plan Outfits in their Entirety.

This means every look should be styled head to toe including the proper shoes, undergarments, and jewelry. Have a dress rehersal with a trusted friend. That way you are not missing anything on the day of the shoot.

Pick Outfits from Clothing You Know.

Senior pictures should be a true representation of your personality. There is no need to buy a whole new wardrobe. Be comfortable as some poses have you sitting or walking.

Play with Layers and Textures.

A denim jacket, blazer, or open button down shirt can help pull a look together. A well-fitting outer layer will enhance your body’s silhouette and photograph nicely.

Solid Colors are Best.

Natural, solid colors like blue, greens, grays, and whites will photograph best and work well with most backgrounds. Solid colors work great especially for close-ups. The focus will be on you rather than your outfit.

Apply Makeup Normally.

You want your portraits to highlight your natural beauty. Avoid the temptation of going too glam and not looking like yourself. Clean and trimmed nails. Use natural colored or clear nail polish. Guys should have a fresh shave or trimmed beard.

Consider Glasses Glare.

If you do not have a non-glare coating on your lenses, consider asking you optician to remove your lenses from the frame for the photo session. Most will do this at no charge, but give them plenty of notice so there is no rush.

Make Sure your Clothing is Pressed.

All clothing should be clean, ironed, and arrive to the shoot on hangers. Wrinkles and dirt are very obvious in photographs and cannot be edited out.

Relax and Have Fun!

These photos represent a wonderful time in your life and the experience of taking them should be just as fabulous as the finished product. Plus, when you are happy and enjoying yourself it will shine through in the photos.

Avoid these:

Tight or Oversized Clothing

  • Tight outfits can be uncomfortable, limit posing options, and create unflattering lines.
  • Oversized clothing can obscure your shape and make you look lost in the outfit.

Busy Patterns or Crazy Prints

  • Bold patterns can distract from your face, which should be the focal point of the portrait. Stick to solid colors or subtle prints.

Wrinkled or Worn-Out Clothes

  • Wrinkles or worn fabric can make it seem like you didn’t prepare for the session. Ensure everything is clean and pressed beforehand.

Revealing Outfits

  • Avoid tops that are too short or low-cut and bottoms (or dresses) that are too short. These can limit posing options and may not photograph well in all angles.

Clashing Colors or Monotone Outfits

  • Avoid colors that don’t complement your skin tone or wearing the same color head-to-toe without variation. Incorporate a range of shades and tones for variety.

Brand Logos or Graphic Tees

  • Large logos, slogans, or graphics can take away from the personal feel of your photos. Choose simple, logo-free clothing instead.

Colored or Patterned Undergarments

  • Ensure undergarments don’t show through your outfit by choosing nude tones that match your skin color.

Don’t get a spray tan or use self-tanners.

  • This can make you look unnaturally orange or make your skin look streaky.
